The Sinabung volcano in Indonesia has been quiet for centuries – for ten years it has been erupting again and again: Now it is again spewing ash. Tens of thousands of people in Sumatra had to get to safety.
In Indonesia, the Sinabung volcano spews smoke and ash. The mass was thrown more than 1000 meters into the air, said the country’s volcanological institute. Glowing clouds of smoke then moved along the slopes of the volcano in a south-westerly direction.
The residents were asked to keep a safe distance of five kilometers. There are no reports of deaths or injuries.

The Sinabung has been increasingly active in Sumatra for weeks.
